You can't just hide your cape from yourself. If it's hidden from you, it's hidden from everyone. They'd have to change the cape mechanic completely to allow that change. It's not like they can just add another button to the menu.
It's like this for a reason, as MagmaRed pointed out.

Not disagreeing with you. It's the "lrn2read" post that merited a response.

Regarding the capes in pvp, none of us as teams are actually using them to identify which side the other player is on so forcing it's display is rather redundant. Plus I don't prefer the super-hero gig messing with my appearance.
Capes are gay. Sorry Anet.

how bout we just remove the "cept pvp" part in the description? Then when we leave them off, they stay off for good.

another option instead of cape could be "always show player names in pvp". its another way u can seen what color players are without capes.

It's there for a reason and been like that for 5 years. If you want it out, 10 minutes with texmod and a few more turning the cape graphic into a clear png texture will get you what you want but only you will see it gone.

I've never had trouble figuring someone's team by whether or not their cape was in view. Just the same as I've never had a problem determining profession if they were behind an object and I couldn't see their armour.

I doubt it would be much programming to hide your own cape from yourself. After all, the visual rendering is already done by your client, and to stop displaying an object should only require a change to a few variables and wouldn't interference with the server or clients of other players.

There shouldn't be much to program at all really. Pvp unlike explorable areas use only a bit of code which allows all capes to display either red or blue and a switch to keep it on during those matches. If that switch could be done on the same level you turn your own cape's display off it's nothing much for a developer to just take a look at and make an adjustment to. Problem is getting said developer to lift a finger...

The sad thing is he wants the cape gone because he wants to look at his own characters armor during PvP. I wouldn't want to be on someone's team who spends more time looking at his own character's ass than the enemy/team positions. Truly, there is no need for this. It serves a function for PvP, and even if you don't make use of that function, having the cape there does not hinder your ability to play.

Uhm-uh, display of the cape is handled by the client, so it would be very possible to implement it so that you don't see your own cape but other people do.
